Job Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for applying generally accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Prepare and post the Foundation’s standard monthly journal entries.
· Verify, allocate, and post accounts payable and cash receipts transactions.
· Invoice and monitor receipt of parish campaign billing, and coordinate with Community Services team on contract status and invoice adjustments.
· Monitor daily bank transactions and assist Senior Accountant in addressing high-profile records and split gifts.
· Assist in the data entry process validating check entry and coding for deposit where appropriate.
· Monitor the Foundation’s online brokerage account daily and sell, process, record, and track incoming stock gifts.
· Prepare check packets for approval.
· Print Operating and Investment account checks.
· Prepare Foundation snap-shot packets for newly assigned or reassigned pastors.
· Prepare accurate and timely donor and parish acknowledgement letters as needed.
· Accumulate and track monthly employee labor allocation spreadsheets for CFO review.
· Prepare and gather documentation for monthly credit card and employee expense reimbursement reports.
· Assist the CFO with annual audit and budget documentation preparation.
· Maintain an accurate and neat account of physical and virtual documentation for all accounting and finance related files.
· Develop and maintain up to date procedures manuals for accounting department.
· Assist the Senior Accountant, CFO, President, and department VPs with other Foundation infrastructure development and ad-hoc reporting as needed.
Requirements
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent.
· Minimum of three years’ experience in a comparable role, preferable in non-profit accounting.
· Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, financial reporting and financial reporting software.
· Detail orientation and ability to work independently. Must have the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including proficiency in Excel and Word.
· Knowledge of Financial Edge software or other general ledger software.
· Professional communications and interpersonal skills.
· Possesses demonstrated ability to work in a church-related as well as service-oriented environment.
Physical Requirements
Position requires walking, sitting for extended periods of time, bending, stretching, and stooping. Repeated use of hands, fingers, wrists, and arms. Must be able to see up close as well as from afar. Job incumbent must also possess the ability to hear and communicate both verbally and in writing, in person and via telephone and electronic communications.
